Just A Girl | The Finalists!
If you have been following the girls are over the past few months, you will be well acquainted with the Just A Girl competition. In support of Ladyfest Ten, we launched a quest to find some amazing female musicians in need of support. The winner would get to play at Ladyfest Ten in November. The entries flooded in, and we were spoiled for choice. Our panel of swoonsome judges comprising yours truly, Viv Albertine, Camilla Pia, Charlotte Richardson Andrews and Ruth Barnes, deliberated long and hard over the entries, and we whittled them down to just 15. The Just A Girl long list.
The long list is a thing of beauty: 15 incredible artists side by side, flying the flag for lady music makers all over the world. Spanning multiple genres and many localities, this awe-inspiring collection of women has been gaining a great deal of well-deserved attention over the last nail-biting fortnight. After 20,000 hits and reams of supportive comments, we are delighted to announce the six Just A Girl finalists!
These six will showcase their fantabulous talent at the Just A Girl Live final on 23 Oct at The Horatia, alongside lots of extra treats including DJ’s Girl Germs spinning 90’s dance party tunes into the early hours, a wonderful raffle, badges, zines, cakes and a temporary tattoo parlour and moustache bar! All proceeds from the night will go to Ladyfest Ten. Sounds aces? Yes. Want to know which bands you’ll be watching? Here goes…
The six finalists of Just A Girl are… *drum roll*
*swelling of applause*
Congratulations to these ladies for making it through to the next round. We are *so* excited! I’m sure you’ll all also join me in applauding the rest of the long list who, unfortunately, didn’t make it through. Every one of them deserved a place in the final and they are all complete heroines – talented, pro-active and simply awesome. Here’s to you, long list ladies.
Now, onto the final! Come and show your support for your favourite band! All event details are below: you can RSVP on our Facebook event here.
