A tiny white girl hailing from Oakland, the daughter of Elka Zolot of garage-punk band The Trashwomen, “occasional lesbian”, member of the White Girl Mob, music video director, and recent vixen to grace the cover of ID magazine. There’s a lot of ground to cover when introducing the recent flurry of ‘next big thing’ accolades surrounding Bay-Area’s Kreayshawn – accolades kick-started when single ‘Gucci Gucci’ dropped back in May – a lot of ground to cover, and a lot for people to disagree about.
Simultaneously, this Minnie-Mouse-eared hip-pop-brat has garnered an obsessive following, and a fairly sizeable backlash, proving at the very least Kreayshawn is worth a listen.
Personally, we can’t get enough of the ‘Gucci Gucci’ video – contagious hooks, out-sized confidence, and an-oft-missing playfulness sit beneath cat-based rhymes and a strangely charming wit (“I got the swag and it’s pumping out my ovaries”). Keep your eyes peeled for more Kreayshawn coverage from us – and in the meantime, let us know what you think of this track.
