2011 was an amazing year for Austra, and the start of 2012 sees them keeping that momentum going with the video release of ‘Spellwork’.
‘Spellwork’ is taken from the band’s debut album Feel It Break, which was released last year. The record came out to a wave of praise, with New York magazine declaring it their favourite album of 2011, and many other British publications featuring it in their best of 2011 polls.
The video for ‘Spellwork’ is directed by photographer and filmmaker Yelena Yemchuk, whose most notable collaboration was with the Smashing Pumpkins on two of their videos in the 1990s. Katie Stelmanis commented that it was an honour to work with Yemchuk, as the Smashing Pumpkins videos she worked on are some of her favourites.
