Cat Power

After unveiling her first original material in yonks last month, Cat Power has given us another taster of her forthcoming album Sun.

Like fellow album track ‘Ruin’, ‘Cherokee’ sees Chan Marshall return to her indie rock roots, albeit in her uniquely melancholic way, as she laments a lost love.

However, it’s not a total downer, as it kicks up a gear pretty quickly. We don’t know about you, but we like depressing lyrics coupled with a danceable beat; it enables us to both wallow and shimmy at the same time, and we’re all for multitasking.

Have a listen to ‘Cherokee’ below and see how the mood takes you:

‘Cherokee’ and its accompanying Nicolas Jaar remix are available to download now if you sign up to Cat Power’s mailing list on her website. Sun will be released on September 3 through Matador.
