Haim have topped the BBC’s Sound Of 2013 list.
The Californian sister trio, who will be releasing their debut album later in the year, were announced as 2013’s top musical tip by a collection of 213 UK-based bloggers, broadcasters and critics.
The band have understandably been chuffed to bits with the accolade, writing on Twitter: “Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! So excited/honoured to have won the BBC sound of 2013 poll!!! We kinda can’t believe it…. xo.”
Bless… And in even more awesome news, every single one of the top five artists on the list are female-fronted (AlunaGeorge, CHVRCHES), entirely female (Haim) or a female solo artist (Angel Haze, Laura Mvula). 20-year-old south Londoner Arlissa and post-punkers Savages were also on the longlist.
Proof indeed that female musicians are fabulous, and it’s cheering to see their talents being recognised. We look forward to bringing you all the news on the accoladed artists as and when it happens in 2013….
