Noir-pop singer-songwriter Nicole Atkins has revealed a brand new track from her forthcoming album Slow Phaser.
‘Red Ropes’ is one of the tunes on the new record co-written with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds/Grinderman cohort Jim Sclavunos, and its doomed romanticism brings to the girls are‘s mind the likes of Lana Del Rey and Blonds, which is a very good thing, natch. Listen to ‘Red Ropes’ below:
Atkins herself says of the song: “I started writing ‘Red Ropes’ for a friend, a tough character who found himself in an expired love that wouldn’t release him, or maybe it was about me, who knows? But it was a song I couldn’t finish until I met Jim Sclavunos. We sat on my floor in Brooklyn one spring afternoon and brought it to life.”
And if you like that, then you’re in luck, as you can catch Atkins debuting some of the other songs on Slow Phaser live on her current jaunt supporting Eels around the UK – more details on where she’ll be going can be found right here.
