Agnes Obel has unveiled the mesmerising animated video for her new single, ‘Golden Green’. The track is taken from the Danish singer-songwriter’s extraordinary third album, Citizen Of Glass, released last week via Play It Again Sam.
Fusing minimal electronics with classical piano and ethereal vocals, the dream-like musical oscillations in Obel’s sound enduce a state of reverie. ‘Golden Green’ is no exception and the hypnotising visual offers a few minutes of welcome respite from the chaos of everyday life.
The video was directed by acclaimed visual artist and Mew frontman, Jonas Bjerre, who says: “The bells that emphasize the rhythm through the song, for some reason they made me think of blinking lights, and glass – glass being a recurring theme in Agnes’ new songs. As she told me more about the song, I started having ideas for some kind of internal world, maybe a world inside someone’s head, where various thoughts and feelings are in opposition, depicted as animated versions of Agnes, struggling to find harmony.”
Sounds wonderfully intriguing, right? Feast your eyes and ears on the video here, and be sure to catch Agnes live on her forthcoming tour – the dates are below:
